Therapeutic Youth Mentor

Therapeutic Youth Mentor Southern Suburbs

My name is Alex, I’m a Therapeutic Youth Mentor at A Mind of Your Own. In my role, I will be working closely with young people, offering practical, emotional, and relational support in ways that extend beyond the therapy room. Therapeutic mentoring sits somewhere between support work and therapy, it is about building trust, understanding lived experience, and walking alongside young people as they navigate everyday challenges. I am a compassionate and strengths-based practitioner, providing a genuine passion for working alongside young people. My background includes community support work, mentoring, disability support and sport-based programs, all of which have shaped my calm, relatable and non-judgemental style. I have a Bachelor (Honours) degree in Psychology from Flinders University and have extensive experience supporting young people across diverse settings. I am also a qualified personal and group fitness trainer, which has given me the ability to motivate and empower young people to build confidence through achievable goals, healthy routines and supportive guidance. Across my roles, I am committed to creating a safe, inclusive and empowering environment where young people feel understood. I am particularly passionate about mental health and wellbeing, building self-esteem, neurodivergent-affirming support, strengthening social connection, and using evidence-based approaches. I believes that when young people feel seen and supported, they can explore their strengths and grow into their potential. Outside of work, I enjoy outdoor adventures, long beach days with my fiancé and our dog, Finn. I love painting, pottery, op-shopping, and cheering on the Brisbane Broncos and Brisbane Lions. I look forward to contributing to the wellbeing of young people and supporting them to build resilience, connection and a strong sense of self.
